Terms of Service

Last updated: March 30, 2026

1. Terms of Use

By accessing and using Academic Luminary ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our Service. We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time, and your continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of any changes.

2. User Accounts

To access certain features you must create an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete registration information
  • Maintain the security of your account credentials
  • Promptly update any changes to your information
  • Accept responsibility for all activity under your account

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Submit work generated by the Service as entirely your own in violation of your institution's academic integrity policies
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the underlying AI models
  • Use automated scripts or bots to access the Service beyond intended usage
  • Upload harmful, offensive, or illegal content
  • Harass, abuse, or harm other users
  • Circumvent rate limits or access restrictions

Academic Luminary is designed as a learning aid. We encourage you to use AI-generated explanations to understand concepts, not to replace your own learning process.

4. Intellectual Property

All content, features, and functionality of the Service — including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, and software — are owned by Academic Luminary and protected by intellectual property laws.

Content you submit (questions, uploaded images) remains yours. By submitting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide license to use it for the purpose of providing and improving the Service. AI-generated responses are provided for your personal educational use.

5. Payment Terms

Paid subscriptions (Pro and Max plans) are billed on a recurring basis. By subscribing, you agree to:

  • Pay all fees associated with your chosen plan
  • Automatic renewal at the end of each billing period
  • Provide valid and current payment information

You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period. Refunds are provided in accordance with applicable law.

6. Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. AI-generated answers are for educational guidance and may contain errors.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Academic Luminary shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, or goodwill.

7. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your account at our sole discretion, without notice, for conduct that we determine violates these Terms or is harmful to other users, us, or third parties, or for any other reason. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. You may also delete your account at any time through your account settings.

8. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved in the courts of San Francisco, California.
